Recap: Phillipsburg Stateliners vs. Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers
The Phillipsburg Stateliners entered their tilt with the Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers with 18 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 19. Phillipsburg walked away with a 59-52 win over Bridgewater-Raritan on Tuesday. Given Phillipsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Bridgewater-Raritan is ranked 170th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Matthew Scerbo jr. was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with six rebounds and two steals. He hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ameer Herran, who scored 11 points.
Phillipsburg's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Bridgewater-Raritan, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Phillipsburg will take on Bound Brook at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bridgewater-Raritan, they and The Pingry School will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The Pingry School will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Bridgewater-Raritan surely won't give up without a fight.
