Basketball Game Preview: Ware Shoals Hornets vs. McCormick Chiefs

Ware Shoals is 1-9 against McCormick since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Ware Shoals Hornets will head out to square off against the McCormick Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jayce Medlin and Daruis Houston.

Last Friday, Ware Shoals took a blow against Abbeville, falling 75-30. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Panthers are ranked 103rd).

Meanwhile, McCormick entered their tilt with Dixie on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Hornets 83-45. The Chiefs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 26 points or more this season.

McCormick's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.7 points per game. As for Ware Shoals, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-10.

Ware Shoals ended up a good deal behind McCormick in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, losing 82-63. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Houston, who went 10 of 18 on his way to 28 points.
