Basketball Recap: Richmond Mciver's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Grace Academy over Providence Prep

If Grace Academy was feeling good fresh off their 85-17 takedown of Memorial Christian Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Grace Academy took a 65-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Providence Prep Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Grace Academy this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 71-50 back in January.

Grace Academy lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Richmond McIver, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. McIver's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Canyon Maxwell was another key player, putting up 19 points in addition to six assists and six boards.

Even though they lost, Grace Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Providence Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Clark Morrison out in front who went 7 for 12 en route to 25 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Morrison is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Asa Jackson, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 15 points and eight boards.

Grace Academy's loss dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Providence Prep, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 18-2.

Grace Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 55-24 win against Memorial Christian Academy on the 7th. As for Providence Prep, they have also already played their next contest, a 77-34 victory against Sterling Classical on the 7th.
