Softball Recap: Wheeler Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Wheeler waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Hammond Bishop Noll Warriors 9-3. The Bearcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.

Cadence Piunti made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Kennedy Hawkins was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Ashlynne Trinidad, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.

The win got Wheeler back to even at 5-5. As for Hammond Bishop Noll, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheeler will square off against Merrillville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hammond Bishop Noll, they will take on Bremen at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
