Nearly 200 players have had over 600 yards of passing and rushing combined in a single game.

With spectacular performances in their season openers, Kaydon Custard of Harrison County (Cynthiana, Ky.) and Jarret Nielsen of Jordan (Long Beach, Calif.) joined a list of over 170 players with over 600 yards passing and rushing in a single game.

The newest addition to the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book, single game total offense includes a player's passing yardage and rushing yardage. It does not include receiving yardage or return yardage.

Custard passed for 325 yards and rushed for another 280 in a 40-33 win over Calloway County (Murray). Nielsen, meanwhile, threw for 576 yards and rushed for 30 in a 59-24 win over North (Torrance).

Record Book: Single game total offense by a player

Custard and Nielsen join a list of over 170 players who have combined for over 600 yards rushing and passing. The list includes two-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes and also has numerous performances by players from the pass-happy schools Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.) and Kenton (Ohio).

In fact, Braden Bratcher of Pulaski Academy holds the all-time mark with 900 yards in a single game after throwing for 764 yards and rushing for 136 in a win over Har-Ber (Springdale, Ark.) in 2019.

Bratcher's effort broke the record of Will Grier of Davidson Day (Davidson, N.C.), who had 882 yards of total offense in a win over Harrells Christian Academy. He had 837 yards passing (which is still a national record) and 45 yards passing. Grier appears on the list three times, each of them coming against Harrells Christian Academy.

Bratcher appears on the list four times, as does Maty Mauk of Kenton, which is the most for any one player. Multiple players have three entries.

All eyes will be on Custard and Nielsen this year to see if they can make the list multiple times during the 2023 season.
