Baseball Recap: Liberty Victorious

Liberty hadn't done well against Mendon Unity recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mustangs, sneaking past 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Mustangs on April 9th, they had to take a 2-1 loss.

Jackson Sims spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Liberty saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Sparrow, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Liberty has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mendon Unity, they moved to 10-6 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Liberty has already played their next contest (against Brown County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Mendon Unity, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 21-0 loss against Quincy Notre Dame on the 28th.
