Baseball Game Preview: Ben Bolt Badgers vs. San Diego Vaqueros

Ben Bolt hasn't had much luck against San Diego recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Badgers are taking a road trip to take on the Vaqueros at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Ben Bolt came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat two weeks ago. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Freer by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Badgers have suffered since February 17th.

Banquete hit San Diego with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vaqueros fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 7-6. The Vaqueros' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Jayden Lozano put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out 15 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of San Diego's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 5-1 (and 8-9-1 when he doesn't). Lozano was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run.

Lozano wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brian Ramirez, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Jake Salinas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Ben Bolt is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13. As for San Diego, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10-1.

Ben Bolt might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from San Diego in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Can the Badgers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
