Baseball Recap: Marquez Comes Up Short

If Marquez was riding high fresh off their 15-3 takedown of Maywood Academy on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gladiators fell just short of the Fairfax Lions by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday.

Jaime Hernandez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Marquez: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bryan Lopez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Marquez now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Fairfax, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Coming up, Marquez will face off against Fremont at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The Gladiators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pathfinders have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Fairfax, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Westchester at 3:00 p.m. on April 8.
