The York Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Freeport Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (York has four straight wins, Freeport has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
York is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Lake Region, who was ranked 13th at the time (York was ranked seventh). The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lakers 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since April 29, 2024.

Bradley Carr was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack Joyce, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Freeport came up short against Lake Region on Wednesday, falling 8-1.
Freeport saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Bolduc, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
York pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Freeport, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Freeport's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: York hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. It's a different story for Freeport, though, as they've only averaged .162. Will they be able to contain York's hitters?
York was able to grind out a solid victory over Freeport in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
