Softball Recap: Hobart Takes a Loss

Hobart had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 5-12 to make it ten. They lost 11-1 to the Hanover Central Wildcats. If the Brickies were looking for revenge after losing 15-11 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Nora Hornak was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

As for Hanover Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.

On Hanover Central's side, Jillian DeYoung made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). DeYoung has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Hanover Central got a big performance out of Kaden Poppe, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Poppe a new career-high. Dallas Bowen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Hobart will take on La Porte at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hanover Central, they will square off against Portage at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
