The Stoneman Douglas Eagles will face off against the Cypress Bay Lightning at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cypress Bay took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Stoneman Douglas, who comes in off a win.
Last Monday, Stoneman Douglas made easy work of Taravella and carried off a 19-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Kaitlin Enright made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Stoneman Douglas let Sophia McComas and Myah Boleen run wild. McComas scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Boleen scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two hits gave McComas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caleigh D'Agati, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Stoneman Douglas hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 4-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Cypress Bay was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 11-3 to Monarch.
Cypress Bay saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordyn Munger, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
The victory got Stoneman Douglas back to even at 8-8. As for Cypress Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
Cypress Bay's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Stoneman Douglas has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cypress Bay, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Stoneman Douglas keep running through batters, or will the Lightning buck the trend?
