Football Recap: John Champe Starts Season with Win Against Dunbar + How To Watch

John Champe gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They strolled past the Dunbar Crimson Tide with points to spare, taking the game 58-40. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Knights' disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 31st in Virginia, while the Crimson Tide are ranked fourth in District of Columbia).

Dominic Plush had an outrageously good game as he threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punched in a pair of TDs on the ground. Those 277 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Cole Fitzgerald was Plush's top target, picking up 76 receiving yards and one score.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. John Champe is headed away from home for the first time to square off against Woodgrove at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Dunbar, they will head out to face off against Gonzaga at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
