Baseball Recap: Whitmore Lake Takes a Loss

The matchup between Whitmore Lake and Melvindale on Tuesday hardly resembled the 4-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Trojans came up short against the Cardinals, falling 13-6. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 4-0 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Chase Abla made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Whitmore Lake's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 4-11 when he doesn't). James Burns was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Whitmore Lake and nudges their season record down to 8-13. As for Melvindale, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 22-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitmore Lake will face off against Byron at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Melvindale, they will venture away from home to face off against Crestwood at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
