Preview: Miami Country Day Spartans vs. Westminster Academy Lions

Miami Country Day is 1-7 against Westminster Academy since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Miami Country Day Spartans' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Westminster Academy Lions on February 10th. After the pair made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky.

With a playoff game on the line, Miami Country Day rose to the challenge on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 91-67 margin over the Sharks. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Herbert Wilson was his usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 33 points, 17 rebounds, and ten assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Miami Country Day's points. Daltyn Simon was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Westminster Academy had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.6 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Thursday. They put the hurt on Chaminade-Madonna with a sharp 81-60 win. Westminster Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.

Westminster Academy can attribute much of their success to Alex Constanza, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds, and Alexander Lloyd, who scored 30 points along with three steals. Lloyd is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Police, who scored 11 points along with three steals.

Miami Country Day is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. As for Westminster Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 20-5.

Miami Country Day came up short against Westminster Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 87-74. Can Miami Country Day avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
