Preview: Lewisburg Patriots vs. Oxford Chargers

Lewisburg is 0-5 against Oxford since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lewisburg Patriots will be playing at home against the Oxford Chargers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Lewisburg never let their opponents score. They snuck past Horn Lake with a 6-0 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Lewisburg.

The team won by holding Horn Lake to a paltry 222 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Lewisburg's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jamar James and his two sacks.

Meanwhile, Oxford had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against Southaven as Oxford made off with a 29-7 win. The result was nothing new for Oxford, who have now won three matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.

Oxford found their leader in underclassman Mitchell Grandjean, who threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Oxford also got help from Levi Blount who showed off his sure hands for 83 receiving yards.

Lewisburg's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Oxford, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.

Lewisburg was taken down by Oxford 39-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2020. Will Lewisburg have more luck at home instead of on the road?
