Basketball Recap: Riverside Extends Winning Streak to Four

It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Riverside ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They secured a 70-66 W over the Mayfield Wildcats. Given the Beavers' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while the Wildcats are ranked 527th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Riverside to victory were Colin Durkin and Drew Brown. Durkin went 7 for 14 en route to 22 points, while Brown dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave Brown a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Ashton Montgomery, who posted eight points.

Mayfield lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Angelo Newman, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds. Aarav Ganore was another key player, going 6 for 9 en route to 15 points.

The victory (which was Riverside's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Mayfield, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Riverside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-54 win against Hudson on the 8th. Mayfield has also already played their next matchup, a 58-51 victory against South on the 14th.
