Softball Recap: Boardman Gets the Win

Boardman had won three straight at home, but on Saturday they bumped up to 14-7 to make it four. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the West Branch Warriors, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since April 16th.

Addie Kowacich made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addie Rudge, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.

As for West Branch, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11. The defeat continues a trend for them in their meetings with Boardman: they've now lost four in a row.

On West Branch's side, Ellie Tucker made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Loper, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Boardman will host Howland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The last four games the Tigers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for West Branch, they will head out on the road to take on Hubbard at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
