Baseball Recap: Canton's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

It's playoff time, and Canton had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Cuba/Spoon River Valley Wildcats on Monday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Little Giants as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Miles Hoops made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. He has become a key player for Canton: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 8-17 otherwise.

In other batting news, Kash Van Houten was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Canton is 7-3 when Van Houten posts two or more runs, but 4-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Grzanich, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.

Canton's victory bumped their record up to 11-18. As for Cuba/Spoon River Valley, they dropped their record down to 16-15 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Canton will face off against Eureka at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Little Giants' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Cuba/Spoon River Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
