Mt. Pleasant and Yough are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Vikings will host the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Danica Trainer 2027 made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off 13 hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Mt. Pleasant let Kendra Brunson 2027 and Carly Surma 2026 run wild. Brunson 2027 went 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI, while Surma 2026 scored two runs while going 3-for-4. That home run was Brunson 2027's first of the season. Ella Alakson 2025 was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Mt. Pleasant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Yough came up short against Deer Lakes on Saturday and fell 8-5. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly three runs.
Shiann Kaefer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Boris, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Mt. Pleasant's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Yough, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Yough's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mt. Pleasant hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. It's a different story for Yough, though, as they've only averaged .240. Will they be able to contain Mt. Pleasant's hitters?
