Basketball Recap: Lake Minneola Takes a Loss

Lake Minneola lost against The Villages Charter back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Lake Minneola Hawks were beaten by The Villages Charter Buffalo 87-29. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 389th, while the Buffalo are ranked 37th).

Lake Minneola lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kendall Brown, who posted seven points. Another player making a difference was Courtney James, who had seven points.

It was another big night for Zion Mcrae, who went 23 for 37 en route to 56 points along with five assists and five rebounds for The Villages Charter. Those 56 points gave Mcrae a new career-high. Iva Charles was another key player, as she made all 6 shots she took racking up 20 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Lake Minneola's loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-14. As for The Villages Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Lake Minneola wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-15 defeat against Lake Howell on the 30th. As for The Villages Charter, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-29 win against Trinity Catholic on the 30th.
