Baseball Recap: Lakeland's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Lakeland had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Lake Region Thunder. This was a revenge game for the Dreadnaughts: when they faced off against the Thunder two weeks ago, they had to take a 11-4 loss.

CARTER MASLYN was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Lakeland: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was STUART NORMAN, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Lakeland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lakeland's win bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Lake Region, they moved to 13-10 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Lakeland will challenge Bartow at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Dreadnaughts are facing the Yellow Jackets at the right time seeing as the Yellow Jackets are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Lake Region, they will face off against Lake Wales at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
