Haverford hasn't had much luck against Garnet Valley recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Fords will head out to square off against the Jaguars at 3:45 p.m. Haverford will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Haverford barely beat Marple Newtown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Fords were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Fightin' Tigers on Monday. Considering the Fords have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Gavin McClafferty spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits.
At the plate, Ryan Cassidy was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Campbell McCormack was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Garnet Valley took on Springfield on Monday. The Jaguars came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 6-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jaguars.
Garnet Valley also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Ryan McGhee gave up only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. McGhee has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Joe Anzalone was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Garret Hosterman also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Haverford's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Garnet Valley, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Haverford skirted past Garnet Valley 5-3 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fords since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
