Flag Football Game Preview: Garner Trojans vs. Smithfield-Selma Spartans

The Garner Trojans will face off against the Smithfield-Selma Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither Garner nor Smithfield-Selma posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Garner beat Southeast Raleigh 12-7. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Garner found their leader in sophomore Aniyah Williams, who rushed for 143 yards and two scores on only nine carries. Williams' longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain her lofty yards per carry total.

Garner didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Mckenzie Armwood, Mariah Ohlson, and Kameron Wendell-Wendt picked up one apiece. Ohlson is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: she's made at least five every time she's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They had to suffer through a 32-0 loss at the hands of Clayton.

Garner now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Smithfield-Selma, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
