Apex took a 24-point loss the last time they faced off against Athens Drive, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. It was close, but the Cougars ultimately received the gift of a 52-49 win from a begrudging Cougars squad. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Apex's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Athens Drive, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Apex and Pinecrest will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jordan Mele and Kennedy Moore. As for Athens Drive, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Corinth Holders at 6:30 p.m. on January 6, 2026.
