Baseball Game Preview: Hampton Crabbers vs. Denbigh Patriots

For the second straight game, Hampton will face off against Denbigh. The Crabbers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Patriots at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hampton has seven straight victories, Denbigh has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Hampton's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Denbigh with a sharp 6-0 win. The Crabbers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by six runs or more this season.

Toby Weymouth made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Weymouth was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, Jaycob Flores was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Gibson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Hampton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in five consecutive games.

Hampton's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Denbigh, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hampton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Denbigh struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
