League recap: Cartersville tops Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe to extend winning streak

AAA Region 5 recap October 8, 2013

Cartersville extended the longest winning streak in AAA Region 5 this week by beating Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, 76-13. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Hurricanes.

Ringgold made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,759 from 3,014. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 30-0 victory over Sonoraville last week.

Cartersville's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brooks Barden threw for 266 and 5 touchdowns and TL Ford had 72 yards receiving. On the ground Kalin Heath chipped in 120 yards. Mark Quattlebaum helped Cartersville's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 76 yards.

He was 12-19 with 0 interceptions.

Heath was the best running back in the league this week. In 3 carries, he ran for 120 yards as Frank Barden's team beat the Warriors. Barden also contributed to the rushing game with 65 yards on the ground.

Cartersville's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Hurricanes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Barden has thrown for 1,341 yards and 21 touchdowns this season, while Ford has 17 catches for 379 yards.

The Hurricanes led the league in scoring this week after putting up 76 points on Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. Barden ran for 65 yards during the win.
