Baseball Recap: Fruitvale Takes a Loss

Fruitvale had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it 13. They lost 15-4 to the Hawkins Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 on Tuesday.

Fruitvale saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyler Barnhart, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

As for Hawkins, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games.

On Hawkins' side, they let Paxton Metcalf and Brayden Givens run wild. Metcalf went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Givens went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave Givens a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trevin Tanner, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Looking ahead, Fruitvale will challenge Martins Mill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hawkins, they will take on Yantis at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks are facing the Owls at the right time seeing as the Owls are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
