Preview: Decatur Central Hawks vs. Plainfield Quakers
Decatur Central is 0-9 against Plainfield since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Decatur Central Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Plainfield Quakers at 6:00 p.m. Decatur Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Decatur Central posted their biggest win since November 22, 2023 on Friday. They breezed by Greenwood at home to the tune of 74-46. Given Decatur Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Greenwood is ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Plainfield's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Mooresville 53-47. The match was a 19-19 toss-up at halftime, but Plainfield was outscored by Mooresville in the second.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Berkeley Williams, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Hannah Menser was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
The win got Decatur Central back to even at 10-10. As for Plainfield, they bumped their record down to 14-7 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Decatur Central came up short against Plainfield in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 55-49. Can Decatur Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
