The Covington Buccs will head out on the road to face off against the Miami East Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Miami East will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Covington extended their winning streak to seven on Friday. The Buccs' pitchers stepped up to hand Lehman Catholic a 13-0 shutout.
Covington got a massive performance out of Emalyn Johnson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Palsgrove, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Covington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 13 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Miami East waltzed into their match on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 16-0 victory.
Jacqueline Kadel made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Kadel was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jaycee Roeth was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and six RBI. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaila Thurman, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Covington's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Miami East, their record is now 18-3.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Covington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Miami East struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Covington came up short against Miami East in their previous meeting back in April, falling 9-6. Can the Buccs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
