Basketball Recap: East Newton Takes a Loss

East Newton entered their matchup against Mt. Vernon on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The East Newton Patriots took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers. If the Patriots were looking for revenge after losing 50-36 to them when the teams met back in December of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

East Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Mt. Vernon, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Newton will square off against Cassville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Newton is facing Cassville at the right time seeing as Cassville is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mt. Vernon, they will be playing at home against Lamar at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
