Parkdale gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They blew past the Fairmont Heights Hornets 22-4. The Panthers have beaten the Hornets the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hornets has come to flipping the script.
Jose Cruz and Chris Saavedra made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Cruz pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Saavedra struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. At bat, Cruz scored four runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Saavedra got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Cruz has been hot recently, having posted three or more stolen bases the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Parkdale got a massive performance out of Gio Velasquez, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Parkdale will take on Douglass at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairmont Heights will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on International High School at Langley Park at 4:30 p.m. on March 21st. This will be Fairmont Heights' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
