Baseball Recap: Lutheran's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak at Home

Lutheran was forced to take a big loss against they on Saturday, they got the better of them on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Taylor Prep Tigers a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won four matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Bobby Haworth made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Lutheran's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Haworth was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joey Hollyer, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played. Josh Baltz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Lutheran's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-4. As for Taylor Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.

Coming up, Lutheran will be playing in front of their home fans against Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sentinels' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Taylor Prep, they will head out to face off against Hope Of Detroit Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
