Football Recap: Rancho Verde Comes Up Short on the Road Against Corona Del Mar

Rancho Verde kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were beaten by the Corona del Mar Sea Kings 41-6. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Sea Kings are ranked 58th).

Rancho Verde's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jimmy Cruz, who rushed for 96 yards and one TD, and George Campbell, who rushed for 85 yards on only 11 carries.

Brady Annett went supernova For Corona del Mar., throwing for 256 yards and five touchdowns while completing 86.7% of his passes, and also rushing for 54 yards and one score. Those five passing touchdowns gave Annett a new career-high. JJ Haley also helped with two TDs in total.

Looking ahead, Rancho Verde will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Great Oak at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Corona del Mar, they will head out on the road to face off against Santa Barbara at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
