Softball Recap: Graves County Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Henry County, Graves County was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Murphysboro Red Devils. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered an 8-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Olivia Powers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taylor Bailey, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ginger Martin, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Graves County's victory bumped their record up to 15-6-1. As for Murphysboro, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Graves County will challenge McCracken County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Murphysboro, they will head out to face off against Carterville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
