Softball Recap: Carterville Lions vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

Carterville came tearing into Saturday's game with 30 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.4 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Mt. Vernon Rams onto the board and left with a 6-0 victory. Considering Carterville has won 20 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Taryn Ford, who gave up just one hit and racked up 17 Ks to keep Mt. Vernon off the board. Ford has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Colbie Bennett, who went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.

Carterville pushed their record up to 31-1 with that win, which was their 32nd straight at home dating back to last season. As for Mt. Vernon, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-17.

Carterville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mt. Vernon, they will head out on the road to challenge Highland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
