Millard West takes loss despite strong efforts from Cooper Fortune and Carter LaBorde

Recap: Millard West Wildcats vs. Bellevue West Thunderbirds

The Millard West Wildcats managed to keep up with the Bellevue West Thunderbirds until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Millard West's tough 73-52 loss to Bellevue West might stick with them for a while. Millard West has struggled against Bellevue West recently, as their match on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Carter LaBorde and Cooper Fortune certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. LaBorde scored ten points along with five rebounds, while Fortune scored ten points. Jordan Gassen was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

It was another big night for Jaden Jackson, who shot 6-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double on 30 points and 11 rebounds for Bellevue West. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jackson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Steven Poulicek, who scored 12 points.

Millard West's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4. As for Bellevue West, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.

Millard West's road trip will continue as they head out to face Omaha North at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. One thing working in Omaha North's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. As for Bellevue West, they will be playing at home against Bryan at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Bryan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday.
