Baseball Recap: The Dalles Gets the Win

The Dalles let Madras stack four runs on them in the seventh inning on Monday but luckily The Dalles prevailed anyway. The Riverhawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the White Buffalos. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Riverhawks have posted against the White Buffalos since May 3, 2023.

Gunner Bustos made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because The Dalles is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-5 otherwise. Bustos was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

Bustos wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evan Ortega, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Kale Beardmore was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

The Dalles is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Madras, they dropped their record down to 5-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
