Softball Recap: Monta Vista Matadors vs. Santa Clara Bruins
Monta Vista had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-9 to make it 11. They lost 19-1 to the Santa Clara Bruins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 back in April.
Monta Vista saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Erin Handelsman, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double was Handelsman's first of the season.
As for Santa Clara, the victory got them back to even at 10-10. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by ten runs or more this season.
On Santa Clara's side, they got a massive performance out of Jasmine (Jazzy) Ramirez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Perkins, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monta Vista will take on Cupertino at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Matadors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pioneers have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. As for Santa Clara, they will square off against Saratoga at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Bruins surely won't give up without a fight.
