Softball Recap: Wittenberg-Birnamwood Has No Trouble Against Weyauwega-Fremont

The matchup between Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Weyauwega-Fremont on Tuesday hardly resembled the 2-1 effort from their previous meeting. The Chargers blew past the Warhawks 20-0. That looming 20-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Chargers yet this season.

Rory Salvesen and Sophia Lemieux did most of the damage at the plate: Salvesen scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Lemieux went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Jayda Moenke was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Wittenberg-Birnamwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-4. As for Weyauwega-Fremont, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wittenberg-Birnamwood will head out to face off against Iola-Scandinavia at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunderbirds have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Weyauwega-Fremont, they are taking a road trip to take on Southern Door at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warhawks are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
