Dayton was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Splendora Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Broncos have posted since February 27th.
Landon Curry looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Dayton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sebastian Avila, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Avila has posted since back in February. Peyton Trahan was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Dayton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Splendora, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-8.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Dayton is set to square off against their familiar foe Kingwood Park at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Splendora will take on rival Porter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3.8, the Spartans 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
