Baseball Game Preview: Roaring Fork Rams vs. Strasburg Indians

The Roaring Fork Rams will be taking part in a tournament against the Strasburg Indians at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Roaring Fork headed into their last match having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Grand Junction Central let them put that streak behind them. The Rams put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 14-4 victory on Thursday. The Rams not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 13, 2024.

Meanwhile, Strasburg put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by an 18-6 margin over Ellicott. Fans of the Indians have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Chase Gilbert made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, RJ Weaver was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Gavin Welch, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Strasburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .429 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Roaring Fork's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Strasburg, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.

Everything went Roaring Fork's way against Strasburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Roaring Fork made off with a 12-1 win. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
