Baseball Recap: Gonzales Triumphs

Gonzales won the last time they faced Smithville and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Apaches came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 7-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Apaches.

Hays Gray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Gonzales' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brodi Ramos, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

The win got Gonzales back to even at 7-7. As for Smithville, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7-3.

Looking ahead, Gonzales will square off against Luling at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.92 runs per game on average), something the Apaches will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Smithville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against ISBL Austin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
