Baseball Game Preview: Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs vs. Marquette Crusaders

The Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs will head out to face off against the Marquette Crusaders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw blew Farmington out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Farmington got their revenge. Deer Creek-Mackinaw fell just short of Farmington by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Chiefs have suffered since April 12, 2024.

Parker Eggenberger put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Eggenberger was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Drew Swadinsky made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Chuck Hathaway also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Marquette didn't have quite enough to beat Marmion on Thursday and fell 5-4. The contest marked the Crusaders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Marquette, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
