Recap: St. Pauls Bulldogs vs. Fairmont Golden Tornadoes

The St. Pauls Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 80-58 loss at the hands of Fairmont. While losing is never fun, St. Pauls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 395th, while Fairmont is ranked 151st).

St. Pauls' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamarcus Smith, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Tyson Thompson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Landon Cummings continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fairmont, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Johnson, who scored 15 points.

St. Pauls has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Fairmont, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Pauls will face off against West Bladen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Bladen will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak. As for Fairmont, they will head out on the road to face off against Red Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Red Springs has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
