Football Game Preview: South Effingham Mustangs vs. Evans Knights

South Effingham is 0-3 against Evans since November of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Mustangs will head out to take on the Knights at 7:30 p.m. South Effingham will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.

South Effingham is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Effingham County on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Mustangs had to suffer through a 49-21 loss at the hands of the Rebels. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 281st, while the Rebels are ranked 106th).

Despite the loss, South Effingham had strong showings from Khyran White, who rushed for 118 yards, and Maddox Vasquez, who rushed for 45 yards and one TD.

Even if they lost, South Effingham's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Danny Murtha, Damien Washington, and Corey Woods, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Evans' offense. They were dealt a 65-0 defeat at the hands of Brunswick two weeks ago. The Knights have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Evans' loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for South Effingham, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-3.

South Effingham took a serious blow against Evans in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 35-0. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
