League recap: Russell loses close one to St. Paul's Episcopal

5A Region 2 recap November 19, 2013

Russell fell 20-14 to St. Paul's Episcopal in the closest game of the week. Labrenikin Johnson was a bright spot for the Wildcats, as he ran for 140 yards in the loss.

Russell led 5A Region 2 in points allowed with 20.

Danny Horn's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Bryant Horn threw for 76 yards and Rod Hunter had 32 yards receiving. On the ground Johnson contributed 140 yards. Quan Johnson helped Russell's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 16 yards.

Johnson was a passing and rushing force as the Wildcats fell to the Saints. Johnson's key target this week was Hunter, who caught 3 passes for 32 yards.

Horn put up the best numbers in passing as Russell fell to St. Paul's Episcopal.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Wildcats' Horn and Lajarret Ford have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Horn has thrown for 1,749 yards this season, while Ford has 35 catches for 493 yards. D.J. Bailey from Valley leads the league in rushing with 1,196 yards.

Russell also led the league in scoring this week after putting up 14 points.
