Basketball Recap: Sabino's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Sabino extended their winning streak to five games thanks to a huge performance from Caden Watkins. The Sabino Sabercats walked away with a 78-69 win over the Tanque Verde Hawks on Wednesday thanks in part to Watkins, who went 11 of 15 en route to 27 points along with seven boards and three steals. Watkins is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season.

The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Herndon, who posted four points and six steals. That's the most steals he has posted since back in November of 2024.

Tanque Verde's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rich Knott, who made all 7 shots he took to post 17 points and seven rebounds. Jacob Dickens was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Sabino has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Tanque Verde, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-8.

Sabino has already played their next game (against Safford), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Tanque Verde has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy.
