Softball Game Preview: Hancock Hawks vs. Long Beach Bearcats

The Hancock Hawks will square off against the Long Beach Bearcats at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hancock is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Hancock and West Harrison, and Hancock kept the tradition alive. The Hawks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Hurricanes a 4-0 shutout on Friday.

Teegan DeWitt was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

DeWitt wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kenleigh McIver, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Abigail Carver was another, scoring a run and stealing two bases.

Meanwhile, Long Beach was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against George County, falling 12-2.

Long Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Hancock, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4.

Everything went Hancock's way against Long Beach in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Hancock made off with an 11-1 win. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bearcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
