Volleyball Recap: Sumner Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Sumner suffered their biggest loss since October 18, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to the Newsome Wolves. The Stingrays haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

While Sumner was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Newsome's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-19, 25-21.

Defeat or not, Sumner got some senior leadership from Victoria Benitez and Alana Mitchell. Benitez had 17 assists and seven digs, while Mitchell had 11 digs. Mitchell is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last seven games she's played.

Newsome was led to victory by Saige Timmerman and Izabella Ruiz. Timmerman had 18 assists, while Ruiz had seven digs and one assist. That's the most digs Ruiz has posted over her last five matchups.

Sumner's loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Newsome, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

After both having extra time off, Sumner and Bloomingdale will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Newsome, they will face off against King at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
