Basketball Preview: King-Chavez Community Lions vs. San Diego Academy Cavaliers
King-Chavez Community is 0-3 against the Cavaliers since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The King-Chavez Community Lions will head out on the road to face off against the San Diego Academy Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m. King-Chavez Community is no doubt hoping to put an end to an 11-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 54-13, which was the final score in King-Chavez Community's tilt against the Redhawks on Thursday. King-Chavez Community was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-8.
Meanwhile, after only 18 points in their last match, San Diego Academy made sure to put some points up on the board against the Lions on Thursday. San Diego Academy blew past the Lions 58-16 on the road. That looming 58-16 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for San Diego Academy yet this season.
San Diego Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rudy Nieto, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nieto has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josue Flores, who scored 14 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
King-Chavez Community's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for San Diego Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.
King-Chavez Community was dealt a bruising 35-6 defeat at the hands of the Cavaliers in their previous matchup back in January. Can King-Chavez Community avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
